Shawn Hoult
An unreasonably honest account of how wonderful, terrifying and heartbreaking young love can be. Shawn Hoult tells the completely true story of his 19 year-old self going on five increasingly unfortunate dates with the girl of his dreams. Shawn and Allison recount a tale of unabashed awkwardness that walks the fine line between the electricity of a first kiss and the horror of possibly pooping your pants before spending the night.
Written and Directed: Dean Combitsis
Cast: Connor William & Zack White
Stage Manager & Light Design: Lisa Floyd
Sound Designer: Tessa Sechay
"Enter Arc and Peg: two, as of yet, unwritten characters, occupying the liminal space in their writer’s brain between conception and abstraction, brainstorming in an attempt to cure their writer of his affliction with writer’s block; these characters, despite their good intentions, are all the while not without their own agendas.
Notwithstanding the boundaries of the troubled writer’s imagination setting the parameters, Arc and Peg are able to contrive ways to transcend the limitations of their writer’s crippling insecurities and inadequacies in order to uncover the means for independence and forge a future for themselves – reclaim the reigns their own stories.
Opaque is about growing, and as a consequence, outgrowing, at first yourself, and then, one at a time, everything that shaped the you you’ve outgrown.
Opaque is about the rift between ego and id, manifested in the struggle to be who you are, and the constant doubt that who you are is not enough.
Opaque is, by definition, the capacity for light to pass through an object; it’s about transparency, and finding the North Star in those moments that seem the darkest."

"Without knowing when it began I suddenly felt myself on the outside. An other vastly different from the rest. Differences I had thought to be small matters compared to the bigger picture of what we were, had always been and were meant to be. In an effort to accept my position of "black sheep" I pretended it was funny. It was a dear friend who allowed me the opportunity to express the hurt and confusion I was actually feeling by offering me the opportunity to dance in her living room in front of a very supportive crowd. This piece is about family, the ones we are born into and the ones we create. It is my efforts to use my whole self to be honest with you as I explore my personal history. I'm hoping that you see something of yourself in my movement and voice. Perhaps we can meet later. Until then I'd like to give you some advice I've learned throughout this process: take risks to love more and longer than you think your capable of. Do"
